They Have Questions and You Have Answers
Volunteers Needed

SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) provides Medicare beneficiaries (including those under 65 years of age) with free, impartial information and assistance with Medicare questions and prescription drug coverage. SHIP has become known as a trusted source for unbiased information about Medicare and related insurances.

SMP: Empowering Seniors to Prevent Healthcare Fraud is a program whose purpose is to reduce Medicare waste and abuse by increasing public awareness through educational programs and by assisting the beneficiary in reading and understanding Medicare documents and how to report suspicious claims. Medicare loses more than $12 billion annually to waste, fraud, and abuse. Every dollar lost to fraudulent activities is a dollar lost to fun genuine healthcare and service needs. Both SHIP and SMP are administered by Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD).

SHIP and SMP are in need of volunteers. Our volunteers help seniors understand Medicare and find appropriate insurance coverage. Volunteers also provide education to seniors on possible fraud and abuse issues. They can serve as leaders in their church, local community, and civic clubs on subjects that face a great number of older adults. Volunteers can contribute as much or as little time as they wish. A free training session and materials are provided. Your experience can have a meaningful impact on our programs and the lives of Medicare beneficiaries in the Upper Cumberland. To become a volunteer or to learn more please contact Stacia Drouillard, Volunteer Coordinator by phone at (931) 432-4111 ext. 247 or email sdrouillard@ucdd.org.

You Can Make a Difference in Macon County Students' Education!
Please take a look at these projects from Macon County teachers.  The teachers have described things they need in their classrooms in order to make it easier for their students to learn.  Donors from Macon County (and around the country, for that matter) have already funded projects in Central Elementary School and Macon County Jr. High!  It's easy to give.  Simply select the project that most interests you and give any amount you can.  Donors receive personal thank-you notes from the teachers and students.  It's a heart-warming feeling when you open the Donors Choose envelope and read these notes ... and realize that you have really made a difference.  Donations are tax deductible..

SHIFT Happens
The Macon County Three-Star Committee strongly recommends that school board members, school principals, school administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community leaders watch these fascinating videos on YouTube.  Each of the videos deals with the same general subject, but each video is slightly different, so we recommend that you watch both.
